Emma has a BSc Hons in Environmental Earth Science and an MSc in Environmental Diagnostics from Cranfield University. Emma currently works for Lafarge, who are world leaders in building materials (www.lafarge.com) The group controls a unique portfolio of businesses; Cement, Aggregates, Concrete and Gypsum. Lafarge designs and produces building materials to meet the requirements of people throughout the world and believes that ongoing advances in building materials must integrate respect for people, their different needs and their environment. The Group creates high value-added solutions which encourage creativity whilst leaving a lighter trace on the world.
Emma has worked in various technical, production & commercial roles and is currently the National Readymix Marketing & Performance Manager. Emma says “The main focus of my role is to ensure our commercial teams have the best resources and information available to advance the business and to share best practice across the readymix concrete business unit.” She is responsible for monitoring business performance and also contributes to the sustainable development of the business unit.
She can answer questions on Environmental Earth Sciences, on Sustainable Development and on working as a Manager.
After gaining a MChem in Chemistry at the University of Leicester, Donna went on to complete a PhD in Green and Sustainable Chemistry in 2006. After completing her PhD, within 3 years, Donna joined the UK Health and Environmental Research Institute, part of Pera Innovation Network (www.pera.com ). Pera is a world leading research and technology organisation that supports small to medium sized enterprises to develop new products or ideas by accessing grant funding from UK or European public funding programmes for collaborative research and development projects. Donna has worked at Pera for 3 years and has been involved with all phases of a collaborative research project from the concept development stage to project management and completion. As part of the Health and Environmental Research Institute Donna has experience in a wide range of topics including, novel solvent processing, waste to energy, contaminated land, waste water treatment and biodegradable polymers.
Donna is currently working towards Chartered Chemist status and can answer questions about studying: Chemistry, Environmental Science and related fields.
After gaining a BSc in Environmental Science and an MSc in Applied Meteorology and Climatology at the University of Birmingham, Catherine Muller went on to complete a PhD in Atmospheric Science in 2008. She then moved to the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Leicester where she began work as the Education & Outreach Officer for the Earth Observation Science group at the Space Research Centre.
Catherine says “The education and outreach part of my job is mainly focused on developing the new and pioneering Space Academy programme, in conjunction with the National Space Centre, University of Nottingham, East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA), STEMNET and National Science Learning Centres. As part of this project I will be working with secondary school teachers, leading academics, and industry experts to develop a series of high-quality masterclasses for key-stage 4 and 5 chemistry, biology, geography, environmental and applied science subjects, using ‘Space’ and ‘climate change’ themes as inspirational ‘hooks’ ”
Catherine also works as a Research Assistant within the EOS group and can answer most of your questions about studying: Physical Geography, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Climatology, Earth Observation Science and many other related fields.
